Finding Paths For Innovation: The Journey Of a Traditional Manufacturing Company

Have you wondered how the old manufacturing companies cope with the changing world and innovation? At paint manufacturer Tikkurila, one journey started with the establishment of an innovation team. The team implemented software to gather ideas, and processes were defined. Still, some things did not work.

By testing different approaches over the years, Tikkurila has found new ways to manage innovations and make the innovation process and culture better. Minna Perttu, an innovation specialist in Tikkurila will share the story of trying out new things and ways to make the front-end of innovation work in Tikkurila.

Minna Perttu

Researcher and innovation specialist at Tikkurila

Minna works as an innovation specialist in a paint manufacturing company Tikkurila in Finland, where she has been developing the innovation management already for five years. Her most exciting job has been bringing design thinking to Tikkurila as it triggered her to have another master’s thesis on the subject as well. Minna is passionate about human-centric development that guides businesses to create more value for themselves and their customers. She is intrigued by the complexity of culture and change.

Minna has studied Service Innovation and Design in Laurea UAS and Chemistry at the University of Helsinki and holds master’s degrees from both. She got excited about the field of innovation when applying for and landing a job with a self-made Christmas card. After all, combining old (job application and crafting) can bring new value. In her free time, Minna is an active dancer and a jewelry designer.
