Omega8 by Walmart: How Walmart Works Directly With Startups in China

Walmart has operated in China since 1996 with a mix of Sam’s Clubs, Walmart hypermarket and supercenters, and depots. It has strategic relationships with JD.com, Dada, and Tencent. As Walmart China accelerated its growth in ecommerce over recent years, it also looked to solve specific pain points for customers and associates with leapfrog technologies. It developed an internal program called Omega 8 to work with accelerators and startups creating solutions specifically for its business operations in China. Ben Hassing, who recently spent his last four years with Walmart China and is relocating with Walmart to San Francisco will walk through the development of Omega 8 and give details on one of the successful proof of concepts that is now being scaled.
