Although many people say they like radical ideas, the greater the risk and uncertainty, the more skittish potential supporters become.
Fortunately, there are strategies for breaking through to win resources and support for your innovative ideas. In this session we examined “impression amplifiers”—actions you can take to influence potential sponsors—that can help convince others to support your ideas. These actions influence the impressions of others and each one taps into a distinct and powerful psychological principle supported by research.
Jeff Dyer (Ph.D UCLA) is the Horace Beesley professor of strategy at Brigham Young University as well as professor of strategy at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
His book The Innovator’s DNA: Mastering the Five Skills of Disruptive Innovators (July 2011) with Harvard professor Clayton Christensen and MIT professor Hal Gregersen, is a business bestseller, has already been published in more than 15 languages, and won the 2011 Innovation Book of the Year Award from Chartered Management Institute. His book (with Nathan Furr) titled, The Innovator’s Method: Bringing the Lean Start-up into Your Organization (September 2014), is also a business bestseller and examines the methods that innovators use to test and validate ideas before launching them in the market.
His new book, Innovation Capital, examines innovation leadership and has already been nominated by Thinkers50 as the best new book on innovation in 2019.
